This is a device that transfers energy through inductive coupling between its winding circuits. A varying current in the primary winding generates a varying magnetic flux in the transformer’s core, which induces a varying electromotive force (EMF) or voltage in the secondary winding. The core of the transformer is made of high permeability silicon steel, which has a permeability many times that of free space. This greatly reduces the magnetizing current and confines the flux to a path that closely couples the winding.
The transformer is designed for general purpose chassis mounting and has a 240V primary winding and center-tapped secondary winding. The transformer comes with colored insulated connecting leads that are approximately 100mm long. Its purpose is to step down AC voltage from 240V to 6V.
